Homemade treats for puppies: 5 simple recipes

Homemade treats are the best choice to spoil your puppy.

Most of the time, our pets end up salivating in vain with us, without receiving anything tasty and healthy for them. From time to time, they also need the most special time they want, to get them out of the routine of tasting dry food. Therefore, we will offer you some simple and delicious recipes to prepare some delicious homemade treats for your puppies.

You don’t need too much gastronomic talent, just a good mood, and love for your furry friend. Homemade snacks have the great advantage that they can be formulated to the taste of the animal (you should already know what foods make him go silly with pleasure). The ingredients are natural, with no added preservation (as is the case with those bought in the store), and very healthy.

Avoid ingredients to which the dog is allergic or intolerant.

  1. Paws with apples and carrots

A simple and tasty recipe for homemade treats, you only need some simple ingredients.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup grated carrot
  • ½ cup grated, and squeezed apples, unsweetened

Mix the ingredients until you get a non-sticky crust. Otherwise, add more flour. Spread a 5-6 cm thick sheet, and with a small glass cut small slices. Contour the paws by pressing one edge of the washers with your thumb, and on the other side build 3-4 depressions by pressing with your little finger.

Place them on baking paper and bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes until golden brown.

These homemade treats are allowed to cool before being offered to the puppy for tasting. Do not offer more than 4-5 rewards per day. The remaining biscuits will be stored in the refrigerator or in paper bags placed in dry and dark places.

  1. Cheese and bacon balls

Ingredients:

  • 4 tablespoons finely chopped bacon
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 4 tablespoons cheddar cheese, or any unsalted or slightly salted assortment
  • 5 cups of wholemeal flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

In a bowl, mix the flour with the baking powder, oil, and eggs, then slowly add the milk, followed by the cheese and bacon. You will get a hard dough; if it’s sticky, add more flour. Roll out the dough into a long roll and cut into 5 cm thick segments. From each piece of these homemade treats, form a ball in your palms.

Place the balls on baking paper and place them in the preheated oven at 180 degrees Celsius. Bake for 20 minutes, remove from the tray and turn the balls over. Bake for another 10 minutes.

  1. Cinnamon rolls

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups wholemeal or white flour 000
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 125 ml of water or milk
  • 60 ml vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 handful of walnuts, pecans, or hazelnuts (optional)

In a bowl, mix the flour with the salt and baking powder. In another, combine water or milk with oil and beaten egg. Add the liquid composition to the flour mixture, stirring constantly. You will get a soft shell, which you spread thinly on a floor covered with flour, in a rectangular shape.

Grease the surface with honey and cinnamon powder all over. If wanted, sprinkle with finely chopped walnuts or hazelnuts. Roll the dough along the small side. With a knife or thread, cut 1 cm thick pieces of these homemade treats, which you place on baking paper. Bake for 15 minutes.

  1. Biscuits with peanut butter and bananas

Ingredients:

  • 1 egg and 1 egg white
  • 5 tablespoons peanut butter
  • 8 tablespoons mashed bananas
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 cup flour (wholemeal or 000)
  • ½ cup of wheat bran

Mix the egg, peanut butter, honey, and finely chopped bananas beforehand, then add the flour and bran in the rain. Spread the dough on the floor in a layer of 5-6 cm and then cut the biscuits into the desired shape.

Place them on baking paper, grease them with lightly beaten egg whites, and bake for 30 minutes, until golden brown.

  1. Simple biscuits

Ingredients:

  • 2 large cups of flour (can be 000 flour, wholemeal flour, oatmeal, or for sensitive dogs – gluten-free flour);
  • 2 small jars of baby puree (choose any assortment with whatever flavor the dog likes; but avoid those that contain onions or onion powder, which are toxic to puppies).

Preheat the oven to 180-200 degrees Celsius. Mix the ingredients to get a hard crust. If necessary, add more water or flour. Roll out a thin sheet (5-6 mm) and then cut the biscuits into the desired shape.

Ideally, you should have a bone shape with which to cut the “cookies”, but the dog will certainly not turn up his nose at the appearance of the biscuits. Bake on parchment paper for 20 minutes.

Let your creativity run wild and add to your composition or place all kinds of cut or grated fruits or vegetables, suitable for dogs (carrots, apples, blueberries, parsley, etc.) on top.
